Don Jazzy’s Bold Confession: Drumming During Intimacy

In a recent episode of the ‘On The Grind’ podcast, renowned Nigerian record producer Michael Collins Ajereh, popularly known as Don Jazzy, opened up about the inspirations that propelled him into music production. The conversation highlighted his deep-rooted passion for music and the various influences that shaped his career.

Don Jazzy emphasized that his love for music was the driving force behind his decision to become a producer. “I just went in [to production] and never looked back,” he stated, reflecting on his journey into the music industry. His passion for music is not just theoretical; he is an accomplished musician himself, proficient in multiple instruments.

The Mavin Records boss is particularly proud of his skills on the drums, showcasing his enthusiasm by saying, “I literally drum all the time.” In a candid moment, he even joked about his unique approach to drumming, claiming, “I can even drum on a woman’s buttocks if I get the inspiration for a beat at that time.” This light-hearted revelation provided insight into his playful relationship with music.

In addition to his instrumental prowess, Don Jazzy’s experiences in the studio have significantly contributed to his career. He reminisced about living in a studio for two years alongside fellow producers Altims and Baby Fresh. This immersive environment allowed him to refine his skills and develop a deeper understanding of music production.

His journey began in the UK, collaborating with JJC and the 419 Squad before co-founding Mo’ Hits Records with D’banj in 2004. As the label’s in-house producer, he gained significant recognition, and in 2012, he launched Mavin Records after the split of Mo’ Hits.
