The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested 13 suspected internet fraudsters in Sokoto State. The suspects were apprehended on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at Gidan Yaro and Dandima areas of Sokoto . According to Dele Oyewale, EFCC’s spokesman, the arrest was based on “actionable intelligence on the suspects’ involvement in internet-related offences.”
Oyewale revealed that all the suspects claimed to be students of Usmanu Danfodio University Sokoto. This is not the first time the EFCC has arrested suspected internet fraudsters in Sokoto. In August 2023, 23 suspects were arrested at Bafarawa and Kalkalawa Estates in Sokoto. The EFCC has been cracking down on internet fraud across the country, with recent arrests in Abia State and Delta State .
The suspects will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations, Oyewale confirmed. The EFCC’s efforts to combat internet fraud are ongoing, with the commission urging citizens to report any suspicious activities.
