Nigeria’s Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has issued a stern warning to officials of the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS) implicated in the apartment-for-prison scandal involving controversial cross-dresser Bobrisky. The scandal revolves around reports that NCoS officials arranged for Bobrisky to serve his six-month prison sentence in a private apartment instead of a prison cell, following his conviction for naira abuse by a Federal High Court in Lagos.
During a press briefing in Abuja marking his one-year anniversary in office, Dr. Tunji-Ojo assured the public that any personnel found guilty would face severe consequences. “We will not spare anybody no matter how highly placed,” he declared. “Let’s be patient. Investigation is ongoing, but be assured that nobody will be protected.” He emphasized the government’s commitment to conducting a thorough investigation, citing the high caliber of individuals appointed to the panel overseeing the probe.
The minister expressed confidence that the investigation would restore discipline and integrity to the Correctional Service. This development comes amid concerns over the management of correctional facilities, prompting the Federal Government to suspend key officials at the Maximum and Minimum Custodial Centres in Kirikiri, Lagos State, following an audio leak that raised questions about the treatment of convicted individuals.
