The Emir of Minna, Bahago, has denied reports that he urged President Bola Tinubu to intensify his probe of past leaders and administrations in Nigeria. In a statement signed by the Secretary of the Minna Emirate Council, Garba Kuta, the Emir clarified his position, stating, “Our goal is to ensure that Nigeria progresses in all areas of human endeavour, regardless of who or which political party is in power in the Emirate, the state, and the country”.
The Emir’s reaction follows widespread social media reports attributed to one of his turbaned chiefs, Musa Maikudi (Achaza), the Hadimin Minna, calling on President Tinubu to probe past leaders. However, Bahago reiterated his neutrality in the politics of Niger State and the country, emphasizing, “As a traditional ruler, I am a father to all and will not take sides with any group or social/political association.”
Bahago reaffirmed his loyalty and unwavering support, as well as that of his Emirate, to President Tinubu’s administration. He urged the President to remain focused on his drive to reposition the economy of the country, advising him not to allow any issue to distract him from his set goals.
The Emir also charged all district heads and turbaned chiefs in his domain to remain neutral, cautioning them to refrain from commenting on issues on his behalf without seeking his prior approval or clearance.
In addition, Bahago expressed appreciation for the new efforts by both the state and federal governments against banditry and terrorism in the state, particularly in his Emirate. He noted that if sustained, this effort would enable the people to return to their homes and continue with their farming activities or pursue their economic and business engagements without fear of being attacked or killed.
