The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has announced the approval of a ₦9.8 billion budget for the rehabilitation of the Presidential Wing at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja. This substantial investment is aimed at enhancing the facilities that serve the nation’s leaders and visiting dignitaries.
Key upgrades included in the project will focus on several critical areas. The plan features the rehabilitation of the link road from Bill Clinton Drive to the Presidential Wing, which is expected to improve accessibility. Additionally, an access road will be constructed to the Presidential Kitchen, ensuring streamlined operations for catering to high-profile visitors.
Other significant enhancements will involve upgrades to the hangar designated for the presidential aircraft, providing better facilities for maintenance and operations. Moreover, a new holding centre for visiting presidents will be established, which will enhance security and comfort for foreign dignitaries arriving in Nigeria.
The contract for this major project has been awarded to construction giant Julius Berger, known for its experience in large-scale infrastructure developments. The company has been given a six-month deadline to complete the work, emphasizing the FCTA’s commitment to timely execution and efficiency.
“This investment is crucial for ensuring that our airport meets international standards for state visits,” said a spokesperson for the FCTA.
