A coalition of Civil Society Organisations in Rivers State has declared January 29th “Black Wednesday” over the death of a mechanic, Chima Ikokwu who was allegedly tortured to death by the Police.

Chima Ikokwu and four of his apprentices identified as Victor Ogbonna, Osaze Friday, Ifeanyi Osuji and Ifeanyi Onyekwere were arrested by the E-Crack police division for driving one way.

According to reports, Chima’s body is yet-to-be released and the four other arrested apprentices are yet to be released to treat their wounds after being allegedly tortured by the police.

A Twitter user, Henry The Pundit, tweeted that the owners of the cars that the Police had accused Chima and his apprentices of stealing had come out to deny that they were stolen.

“The Police accused the boys of stealing two cars. The owners of the cars have come out to say the boys didn’t steal their cars, that they were mechanics, working on the cars. Yet the police charged them to court for robbery and cultism,” he tweeted.
