Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has dismissed rumors of a strained relationship with his predecessor, Nasir El-Rufai. Speaking on a TVC news program on Monday, Sani refuted claims of any discord between them, emphasizing the cordial nature of their relationship.
“I can tell you there’s no problem between me and my predecessor. Our relationship is very cordial, and there’s nothing wrong with our relationship. What is more important here is moving our state forward,” Sani stated, aiming to quell any doubts surrounding their working relationship. His comments come amidst speculation fueled by political developments within the state.
The clarification from the Governor follows a report by the Kaduna State Assembly in June 2024, which accused El-Rufai and some of his appointees of mismanaging a significant sum of N423 billion in state funds. This report sparked controversy and raised questions about the administration’s financial practices, but Sani downplayed the significance of the issue.
Responding to inquiries about the Assembly’s report, Sani said, “I don’t know why you’re also talking about the State Assembly. The State Assembly is also an independent arm of the government. So there’s nothing. Kaduna State is more important than me and my predecessor.” He emphasized the state’s progress as the primary concern.
El-Rufai, in response to the allegations, had swiftly denied any wrongdoing. He labeled the report by the State Assembly as “false and scandalous,” seeking to discredit the claims made against his administration.
