Kebbi State Launches Massive Fumigation Exercise to Eradicate Malaria

The Kebbi State Government has embarked on a comprehensive fumigation exercise aimed at eliminating malaria across the state. Director of Environmental Health, Muhammad Nasir-Musa, announced the initiative in Birnin Kebbi on Monday.

According to Nasir-Musa, the exercise seeks to rid the state of mosquitoes, reducing the risks associated with malaria and other diseases. “The main objectives are to kill mosquitoes in their adult stage, eliminate larvae, and destroy eggs,” he explained.

Nasir-Musa emphasized the importance of targeting mosquito breeding grounds, particularly stagnant water, during the rainy season. “This is the peak period for mosquito production and reproduction, and we’ve received numerous complaints about malaria,” he noted.

The fumigation exercise will cover Birnin Kebbi and extend to other parts of the state. Notable locations already fumigated include the Emir’s palace, Government House, and Presidential Lodge. The ministry plans to engage ad-hoc staff trained in specialized fumigation.

Nasir-Musa urged the public to prioritize environmental sanitation, citing inadequate sanitation as a primary factor in mosquito breeding. He expressed gratitude to Governor Nasir Idris for supporting the ministry’s efforts.

Chief Medical Officer Abubakar Attairu praised the state government for providing fungicide to spray Kalgo Medical Centre. “This timely exercise will address health-related illnesses caused by mosquitoes. We appreciate the gesture and hope it becomes a routine exercise,” Attairu said.
