As the holy month of Ramadan begins, Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu has assured Nigerians of improved electricity supply throughout the fasting period. The minister made this promise in a goodwill message to Muslims across the country, acknowledging the nation’s power challenges while reaffirming the government’s commitment to a more stable electricity supply.
Adelabu emphasized that the Federal Government recognizes the increased energy demands during Ramadan, particularly for pre-dawn meals (Suhoor), post-sunset meals (Iftar), and night prayers (Taraweeh). “I understand that Ramadan requires increased energy consumption, especially during Suhoor, Iftar, and Taraweeh. The Federal Ministry of Power is working tirelessly to guarantee a steady and reliable power supply throughout this sacred period and beyond,” he stated.
The minister also highlighted the government’s ongoing efforts to enhance Nigeria’s national power infrastructure. He assured the public that measures were in place to prevent grid collapses and expand electricity access across the country, particularly in underserved areas. “We are focused on improving the power sector by addressing grid instability and ensuring that Nigerians, regardless of location, can observe Ramadan with comfort and dignity,” he added.
In addition to government efforts, Adelabu called on citizens to adopt responsible electricity consumption habits. He advised the public to use energy-efficient appliances, switch off unnecessary lights, and unplug devices when not in use. These steps, he said, would help ease the pressure on the national grid while also supporting environmental sustainability.
Beyond electricity concerns, the minister used the opportunity to encourage Nigerian Muslims to embrace the deeper spiritual significance of Ramadan. He urged them to engage in acts of charity, strengthen national unity, and pray for the peace and stability of the country.
“Ramadan is not only about fasting but also about spiritual renewal, self-discipline, and personal growth. Let us seize this opportunity to strengthen our relationship with Allah, extend kindness to others, and pray for the development of our beloved country,” Adelabu remarked.
He further stressed the importance of compassion and generosity during the holy month, encouraging Nigerians to support those in need. The spirit of Ramadan, he noted, aligns with values of community service and national cohesion, which are crucial for Nigeria’s progress.
In his closing remarks, Adelabu urged Muslims to offer prayers for the nation’s leaders and institutions. He expressed hope that through divine guidance and collective efforts, Nigeria would overcome its current challenges and move toward a brighter future.
The holy month of Ramadan, which commenced on Saturday, March 2, is a time of fasting, devotion, and reflection for Muslims worldwide.
