Nigerians can expect a decrease in electricity costs in the coming months, according to Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu. The Minister assured that efforts are underway to increase power generation and distribution, resulting in lower electricity costs.
Adelabu made these remarks during a courtesy visit from the Executive Secretary of the National Lottery Trust Fund, Tosin Adeyanju, at the Ministry’s headquarters in Abuja.Despite complaints from Nigerians, particularly Band A consumers, Adelabu maintained that electricity costs are lower than running diesel or petrol-powered generators.
He noted that electricity prices in Nigeria are relatively cheap compared to other African countries like Togo, Mali, and Niger Republic. However, Adelabu acknowledged that the low income level of many Nigerians makes the cost seem high.
“Nigerians can be assured of a reduction in the cost of electricity, with the current effort to step up generation and distribution of power,” Adelabu said.
