Mr. Macaroni Critiques Nigerian Politicians for Disrespecting Citizens

Prominent social activist and skit creator Debo Adebayo, known as Mr. Macaroni, has voiced strong criticism against Nigerian politicians, asserting that they demonstrate a significant lack of respect for the citizens of Nigeria. His comments come in light of a disturbing incident involving Alexander Mascot Ikwechegh, a member of the House of Representatives from Abia State, who allegedly threatened an Uber driver with violence and confinement.

Ikwechegh’s threats, which included making the driver “vanish” and physically assaulting him, have sparked widespread outrage. In response, Mr. Macaroni took to his X account to express his views on the broader issue of political accountability in Nigeria. He emphasized that such disrespectful behavior is indicative of a larger trend among politicians who consistently fail to answer to the public.

“Nigerian politicians lack regard for Nigerians, and this is because they have never been accountable to the people,” Mr. Macaroni stated. He referred to a recent comment made by the FCT Minister, who reportedly questioned whether some Nigerians were foolish during an address to them. “The other day, the FCT Minister was addressing some Nigerians and he said, ‘Are you stupid? Is it because I came down to talk to you?’” he recalled, highlighting the minister’s condescending tone.

The activist did not hold back in his critique of the minister’s attitude, declaring, “You are a civil servant! What do you mean by ‘is it because I came down to talk to you?’” Mr. Macaroni underscored the importance of public servants recognizing their role in society, noting that they are paid by the very citizens they are meant to serve. “Whatever privileges your office allows you is as a function of your service to the people!” he added passionately.

He further emphasized that arrogance has no place in public office, stating, “Nigeria is not a private entity. Your duty is to serve! You are not anybody’s chairman.” This call for accountability resonated with many of his followers, who have expressed frustration over the treatment they receive from elected officials.

Mr. Macaroni concluded his remarks by urging citizens to remind politicians of their responsibilities. “So, next time any Nigerian politician is addressing the people, please remind them that they are speaking to the people they are serving, not their followers,” he asserted. His comments reflect a growing sentiment among Nigerians who demand better treatment and accountability from their leaders.
