Popular Nigerian skit maker and activist, Debo Adedayo, better known as Mr Macaroni, has expressed his frustration with corrupt politicians in Nigeria, accusing them of looting public funds for personal gain. In a passionate post shared on his X handle, the actor and activist highlighted the scale of corruption within the political system and condemned the lack of consequences for those responsible.
Macaroni’s remarks were a direct criticism of the Nigerian political elite, who he claimed have stolen billions, if not trillions, of Naira from the nation’s resources. He expressed disbelief that despite these actions, politicians continue to act with impunity, with no legal or social consequences for their theft. “Nigerian Politicians have stolen and are still stealing billions and trillions from the Nation’s purse,” Macaroni wrote. “Unfortunate enough as it is that there are Zero Consequences for these actions.”
In his post, Macaroni lamented that some Nigerians continue to defend these politicians, despite their blatant disregard for the welfare of the masses. He referred to it as “torturous” to watch citizens support politicians who do not care about the struggles of the people. “It is torturous that the people whose treasury are being looted continue to defend Politicians who absolutely do not care about their existence,” he stated, questioning the mindset of those who defend such corrupt leaders.
The activist’s frustration was also directed at the apparent lack of empathy and responsibility among Nigerian politicians. He wondered how it was possible for politicians to misuse public funds to such an extent, especially when those resources could be used to improve the lives of millions of citizens. “How can you comfortably loot public funds enough to change the standard of living of millions of the people you ought to serve selflessly?” he wrote, calling it a “greed and wickedness” that is hindering national progress.
Macaroni’s strong words pointed to what he described as the complete lack of moral and ethical values among Nigerian leaders. He expressed anger at the seeming absence of integrity, purpose, and accountability within the political system. “No integrity!!! No sense of purpose!! No accountability!!! Zero shame!!! Just hardened criminals in office!!!” he declared, emphasizing his belief that those in power are solely motivated by selfish interests.
