Mummy Wa Reflects on Her Rise to Fame Amid Parental Opposition , Industry Challenges

Kemi Ikuseedun, popularly known as “Mummy Wa” or “Kemz Mama,” has opened up about her journey to stardom, shedding light on the personal and professional challenges she faced along the way. In a candid interview with Chude Jideonwu, the Nigerian content creator and Nollywood actress discussed her rise to fame, revealing that her path to success was anything but smooth, particularly due to lack of support from her family.

Ikuseedun revealed that her father was initially unsupportive of her career, dismissing her ambitions as “irrelevant irrelevancies.” “My father didn’t see what I was doing as anything meaningful. He called it irrelevant irrelevancies,” she explained. This lack of encouragement from her parents made her journey into the entertainment industry an uphill battle, as she struggled to gain acceptance for her chosen path. “It was almost impossible for me to pursue a career in entertainment because my parents did not encourage me,” she added.

Reflecting on her early career, Kemi recalled her unexpected exit from the popular Nigerian TV series *Tinsel*, where her character was killed off without any prior notice from the producers. “I was just suddenly written out of the show,” she shared. This abrupt change in her role was a stark reminder of the unpredictable nature of the entertainment industry, one where even established actors could face unexpected setbacks.

Ikuseedun also spoke about her experience with Mr. Macaroni, a prominent Nigerian comedian, and how her initial appearance in one of his comedy skits on YouTube didn’t lead to an immediate partnership. “After I appeared in Mr. Macaroni’s skit, he didn’t reach out to me again,” she confessed. Despite this, the breakthrough moment came later when Mr. Macaroni invited her to regularly feature in his skits, which ultimately changed the trajectory of her career.

The success of these skits with Mr. Macaroni was a turning point for Kemi, as her social media following exploded in the wake of their collaborations. “Once I started working with Mr. Macaroni more often, my social media accounts went crazy,” she said, acknowledging the critical role that the comedian played in her rise to fame. This surge in popularity brought her the recognition she had long sought and cemented her status as a household name in Nigerian entertainment.

Despite her eventual success, Kemi’s journey was far from easy. She opened up about the challenges she faced within the film industry, including experiences of sexual harassment and issues with body image. “There were times I felt insecure about my breast size, and I faced harassment. It was a tough time,” she shared, emphasizing the personal battles she fought behind the scenes while trying to build her career. These struggles, she noted, were part of the broader challenges that many women face in the entertainment world.
