“I Am Not Gay” – Desmond Elliot Responds

Desmond Elliot, the Nigerian actor-turned-politician, has finally addressed the rumors regarding his sexuality that have been circulating on social media. In a recent interview on TVC, Elliot dismissed the allegations as unfounded and unworthy of his attention. “Why would I respond to an allegation that neither increases nor decreases my life?” the 50-year-old lawmaker from Surulere questioned during the interview, highlighting his indifference toward the claims.

The controversy began when a popular blogger included Desmond Elliot on a list of public figures allegedly involved in homosexuality. The blogger, who has gained notoriety for sharing sensational and often unverified claims, ignited a public discourse by naming Elliot among several other high-profile individuals. Despite the widespread speculation, Elliot firmly rejected the accusations.

“It is merely an opinion someone has formed,” Desmond explained, adding that it was unnecessary for him to either confirm or deny the allegations. “As long as I am making a positive impact on others, I don’t see the need to address baseless rumors,” he continued, stressing that his focus remains on his work and his contributions to society. He reiterated, “I am not gay,” firmly refuting the claims that had been spread about him.

As a lawmaker, Elliot expressed concern over the unchecked power of bloggers and the impact of such rumors on public figures. He criticized platforms like Gistlover, the blog responsible for the allegations, suggesting that they often thrive on spreading personal attacks and unverified information. Elliot called for stronger regulation of such platforms, which he believes have too much influence and can damage reputations without accountability.

“The government needs to consider regulating these platforms,” he urged, pointing out the risks associated with the unchecked spread of rumors. “When a person’s reputation is destroyed based on lies or unfounded allegations, it can be extremely damaging,” he added, echoing the concerns of many others who have been targeted by similar online attacks.

The controversial blogger who made the allegations had previously claimed to possess “damning” evidence and witnesses to support the accusations. However, no concrete proof has been provided, and many of those named in the list, including Elliot, have strongly denied the allegations and taken legal steps to defend their reputations.
