Nigeria @ 64: Archbishop Okoh Calls for Unity and Progress

CAN

Archbishop Daniel Okoh, President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, has urged Nigerians to be courageous and hopeful, emphasizing the need for unity and progress. In a statement released on Tuesday, Okoh stressed that social justice remains a cornerstone of Nigeria’s national aspirations, highlighting the importance of prioritizing education and creating employment opportunities to empower the youth.

“By prioritising education and creating employment opportunities, we empower our youth and lay the groundwork for a prosperous future,” Okoh said, underscoring the significance of investing in the nation’s future leaders. He also emphasized the importance of valuing religious diversity, stating, “As we celebrate our independence, let us reaffirm our commitment to mutual understanding and mutual respect.”

Okoh encouraged Nigerians to be courageous and hopeful, saying, “Together, we can overcome the challenges before us and celebrate the richness of our diverse heritage.” He envisioned sustainable growth through focused national development, including infrastructure and youth empowerment, and prayed for God’s guidance towards lasting peace and prosperity.

Reflecting on Nigeria’s journey, Okoh acknowledged the progress made in combating terrorism and banditry but stressed the need for vigilance. “We commend the efforts of our security forces in safeguarding our nation. However, we must remain vigilant and continue to support initiatives that promote safety and security for all Nigerians,” he stated.

Okoh’s call for unity and progress resonates with President Bola Tinubu’s independence day address, where he acknowledged the challenges facing the nation and pledged to work towards a brighter future. The President also announced several initiatives aimed at empowering youth, promoting economic growth, and enhancing national security.

As Nigeria celebrates its 64th independence anniversary, international leaders, including the United States and the United Kingdom, have extended congratulatory messages, recognizing Nigeria’s resilience and commitment to democracy.
