“Nigeria Doesn’t Have True Democracy” – Davido Shares Views on Politics ,U.S. Democracy

Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, better known as Davido, has shared his thoughts on the political landscape of Nigeria, admitting that the country does not have a true democracy, unlike the United States of America. The singer expressed his views during an appearance on The Morning Hustle podcast, where he discussed his experience with international politics and his admiration for the American democratic process.

Davido highlighted his respect for American democracy by reflecting on the 2016 U.S. Presidential election. Despite supporting Hillary Clinton’s running mate Kamala Harris, the singer explained that he still congratulated Donald Trump after his electoral victory. “I congratulated Donald Trump. That’s the president! What are you talking about? If I were running against him, I would still have congratulated him,” Davido said. His comments underscore his belief in respecting the democratic process, regardless of personal political preferences.

What stood out in Davido’s remarks was his emphasis on the difference between the political systems in the U.S. and Nigeria. “What I like about America is that there’s true democracy. Where I come from [Nigeria], it’s not so,” the singer stated. His candid admission reflects his concerns about the state of democracy in Nigeria, a sentiment echoed by many Nigerians who feel the country’s political system lacks transparency and fairness.

The artist also expressed his admiration for the possibility of a female president in the U.S. during the 2020 elections. “To be honest, I voted for Kamala Harris because I wanted to see the first female president in my generation. That would have been cool,” he shared. Davido’s support for Harris reveals his desire to see groundbreaking changes in leadership, particularly in terms of gender representation.

Davido’s comments about the political situation in Nigeria reflect his frustration with the country’s lack of what he considers “true democracy.” While he did not delve into specifics about Nigeria’s political challenges, his remarks suggest a belief that the system does not function as it should. Many Nigerians have voiced similar concerns over issues like electoral transparency and government accountability.
