Nigerian rapper Falz has publicly addressed recent comments made by social media influencer VeryDarkman, clarifying his unfamiliarity with the latter’s work before the derogatory statements were made against him. During a recent episode of the Afrobeats Podcast, Falz emphasized that he had little knowledge of VeryDarkman’s activism prior to the controversy.
“I don’t know much about his activism; I’d be honest with you. Prior to the first video where he mentioned me and my dad, I hadn’t seen much of him,” Falz stated, highlighting the disconnect between them. His remarks came in response to a series of videos where VeryDarkman allegedly made baseless claims about Falz and his family.
Falz further elaborated on the one instance that caught his attention regarding VeryDarkman’s activities: his campaign against unregistered skincare vendors in Nigeria. “What I had seen and remember seeing was from a while ago. Some stuff about people who didn’t have NAFDAC numbers and were selling bleaching products,” Falz noted. He acknowledged that he recognized this cause as a positive effort, indicating a limited engagement with VeryDarkman’s work.
This incident unfolds against the backdrop of an ongoing legal battle involving Falz, his father, renowned lawyer Femi Falana, and VeryDarkman, which stems from the latter’s defamatory remarks. The legal implications of the situation have added tension to the already heated exchanges on social media.
In discussing VeryDarkman’s statements, Falz expressed outrage at the allegations made against him and his father. “Now this person one day thought it wise to turn on his ring light, sit down, and fire direct statements, insinuations, and innuendoes,” he remarked, reflecting on the manner in which the accusations were presented.
Among the accusations, VeryDarkman alleged that Falz and his father had conspired with individuals to manipulate justice and bribe the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Falz countered these claims by questioning the credibility and motives behind such unfounded allegations.
Additionally, VeryDarkman suggested that Falz’s activism was a facade, alleging a personal relationship with controversial figure Bobrisky as part of his reasoning. “How would anyone feel? These are horrible things to say without proof. How can you just come and allege all these things?” Falz responded, articulating his frustration over the lack of evidence backing such serious claims.
