Federal Government has announced a substantial increase in the monthly allowance of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members, raising it to N77,000 effective July 2024.
This development follows the enactment of the National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act 2024, signed into law by President Bola Tinubu on July 29, 2024.
According to Caroline Embu, NYSC’s Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, the approval was confirmed in a letter from the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission.
“The Federal Government has approved the increase of corps members’ monthly allowance to N77,000 with effect from July 2024… This is in line with the enactment of the National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act 2024,” Embu stated.
NYSC Director-General Brigadier-General Yusha’u Ahmed welcomed the increase, expressing gratitude to the Federal Government.
“The NYSC boss is thankful to the Federal Government for the timely gesture and is optimistic that it will not only bring much-needed succour to the corps members but also boost their morale and motivate them to do even more, in their service to the nation,” Embu added.
Prior to this increase, corps members received a monthly allowance of N33,000.
The increased allowance aims to improve the welfare of corps members, enhance their service experience, and recognize their contributions to national development.
