Brigadier General Yushau Ahmed, the Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), has announced a substantial increase in the monthly allowance for corps members. Starting February 2025, corps members will receive a new allowance of N77,000, a significant rise from the previous N33,000.
The announcement was made during a meeting with the 2024 Batch ‘C’ Stream II corps members in Katsina on Thursday. Yushau Ahmed confirmed that the increase was part of the 2025 Federal Government budget. “This month (January) has already ended, but once the budget is passed, by next month (February), you will start receiving N77,000 instead of the usual N33,000,” he said.
The raise comes as a welcomed gesture to help ease the financial challenges that many corps members face during their one-year service to the nation. Ahmed also encouraged the corps members to appreciate the government’s efforts by serving diligently and giving back to the country. “We urge you to serve with dedication and make the most of this opportunity,” he added.
Beyond the financial increase, Ahmed reassured the corps members that their safety is a top priority. He emphasized that no corps member would be posted to areas with security risks. “We will not send our corps members to wherever we have challenges of security threats. Wherever we send them, they should be assured that the place is safe and secured for them to serve,” he assured.
