Pastor Adeboye Recants on Tithe Comment, Apologizes to Congregation

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has apologized for his previous statement that Christians who don’t pay tithe might not make it to heaven.

In a video address to his congregation at the ongoing Youth Convention at the Redemption camp, Adeboye described his earlier claim as a “mistake.” He stated, “I apologise for saying ‘If you don’t pay tithe, you might not make it to heaven.’ I’m sorry, that’s wrong, and it’s not in the Bible.”

Adeboye emphasized that the Bible’s prerequisites for making heaven are peaceful and holy living, citing Hebrews 12:14, which says, “Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see God.” He explained that limiting oneself to a 10% tithe is not sufficient, saying, “10 per cent should be for beginners.”

Adeboye, a former scientist, used the analogy of light traveling in waves to illustrate that knowledge and understanding can evolve. “It is possible to be right and wrong at the same time,” he said, promising to provide more details on the topic soon.
