President Tinubu Attends Mission 300 Africa Energy Summit in Tanzania

Muhammadu Buhari, has arrived in Tanzania to attend the highly anticipated Mission 300 Africa Energy Summit, which is scheduled to begin on January 27. The President landed in Dar es Salaam at 10:20 pm local time (8:20 pm Nigerian time) and was warmly received by Tanzanian Foreign Minister Mahmoud Thabit Kombo and the Chargé d’Affaires of the Nigerian High Commission to Tanzania, Salisu Suleiman. 

 

The two-day summit is a major gathering aimed at accelerating energy access across Africa. Hosted by the Government of Tanzania, the African Union, the African Development Bank Group, and the World Bank Group, the event brings together stakeholders from across the continent to discuss and collaborate on energy strategies. On the first day, at the ministerial level, representatives from participating countries, including Nigeria, will present their national energy strategies, referred to as “compacts.” These compacts will outline each country’s approach to achieving universal energy access within the next five years.

The second day of the summit, January 28, will feature heads of state endorsing the Dar es Salaam Energy Declaration, a document that will establish a unified roadmap for Africa’s progress towards the Mission 300 objectives. This declaration is expected to guide the continent’s energy policy and outline the collective steps that nations must take to meet the ambitious energy goals.

 

During the summit, President Buhari will deliver a national statement reaffirming Nigeria’s strong commitment to achieving universal energy access. He will also emphasize Nigeria’s leadership role in Africa’s energy sector, highlighting the country’s ongoing efforts to improve energy infrastructure and expand access to electricity for its citizens.

 

In addition to addressing Nigeria’s energy vision, President Buhari will discuss the country’s clean energy initiatives, which aim to reduce carbon emissions while driving sustainable development. The Nigerian government is particularly focused on strategies for integrated energy delivery across the continent, a key component of its participation in the Mission 300 initiative.

Accompanying the President on his trip are several high-level Nigerian officials, including Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu, and Special Adviser to the President on Energy Olu Verheijen. These officials are expected to engage with their counterparts from other countries to forge stronger collaborations and partnerships in the energy sector.
