President Tinubu Committed to South-East Development, Says Vice President Shettima

Vice President Kashim Shettima has assured the people of the South-East that President Bola Tinubu has their best interests at heart. During his visit to Enugu State for the opening of the 5th Expanded National Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Clinic, Shettima emphasized Tinubu’s commitment to addressing the region’s infrastructural deficit and erosion.

“The President told me that I must come to Enugu and assure the good people of Enugu that our government must do whatever we can to support the people of South-East,” Shettima said. He highlighted Tinubu’s appointment of Engr. Jennifer Adighije, a daughter of Abia State, as the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Power Holding Company of Nigeria, to champion the course of lighting up the South-East.

Shettima lamented the devastating impact of erosion in the region, affecting the livelihood of Nigerians. He disclosed that President Tinubu plans to discuss solutions with the National Assembly and South-East governors. “The problems of the South-East are problems of infrastructural deficit; problems of erosions that are affecting the very livelihood of our people,” he said.

The Vice President praised Governor Peter Mbah’s development strides in Enugu State, particularly in security, water supply, and education. “If I say I was impressed by what I saw in Enugu, it will be an understatement. I was overwhelmed by the giant strides recorded by Governor Mbah and his team.”

Shettima called for closer collaboration between the Federal Government and Mbah to accelerate Enugu State’s development. He announced a N150,000 grant for outstanding MSMEs, emphasizing it was an outright grant requiring no repayment.

Governor Mbah commended the Vice President for championing MSMEs’ growth in Nigeria. He noted the inauguration of the Enugu State Fashion and Garment Hub, developed in partnership with the Office of the Vice President.

The Expanded National MSME Clinics provide a platform for MSMEs to access essential support from government agencies and private sector stakeholders. This initiative aligns with Enugu State’s economic vision.
