The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) pastor, Ayorinde AdeBello, has finally spoken out against allegations of homosexuality leveled against him and another pastor. In an Instagram post titled “My response to the allegations of sodomising teenagers,” AdeBello denied the accusations.
AdeBello explained that he had initially wanted to respond immediately but was advised not to, as he was not the only one named in the allegations. However, as the allegations escalated to criminal claims, he felt compelled to respond.
“In the past few days, some allegations were made against me and some others via a blog on social media,” AdeBello stated. “I have NEVER demanded sex from any male as payment or gratification to give them assistance, platforms, or positions. God is the only king-maker.”
AdeBello specifically addressed one individual, Mr. Jedidiah, stating, “I have NEVER had sex with Mr. Jedidiah or proposed sex to him for any reason.” He explained that a screenshot of a WhatsApp conversation had been taken out of context.
The conversation, according to AdeBello, was part of a male teenager WhatsApp group discussing male reproductive health and self-esteem. He emphasized that his goal was to educate teenagers about proper hygiene and reproductive health.
AdeBello expressed dismay over the misrepresentation of his messages, saying, “It is disheartening to see that the screenshot message has now been mischievously quoted out of context to portray me as someone who has sex with male teenagers.”
Recall that the RCCG’s national overseer, Sunday Akande, announced the suspension of Pastor Ayorinde AdeBello and Deacon Oke Mayowa due to alleged involvement in sexual misconduct with young church members.
The church has directed the Special Assistant to the General Overseer on Administration to carry out a thorough investigation into these claims within two weeks. The RCCG reiterated that its doctrine strictly prohibits any acts of homosexuality.
The investigation is ongoing, and the church has urged anyone with relevant information to come forward. The outcome of the investigation will determine the fate of the suspended pastors.
