Seun Kuti, renowned musician and activist, has strongly condemned President Bola Tinubu’s decision to remove the fuel subsidy, calling it “wicked” and detrimental to Nigerians’ welfare.
In a recent Instagram live session, Kuti emphasized that the government doesn’t require public funding for its needs. “Don’t let anybody tell you that there’s something in Nigeria that the government cannot afford or that they need some private person to invest,” he said.
Kuti criticized government officials’ lavish spending, citing the $150 million spent on a private jet for the president. “Who donated for the $150 million jet for Tinubu? Who did they ask for donations?” he asked, highlighting the prioritization of luxury over education and infrastructure.
“That $150 million could build and run 10 good primary schools for 20 years, educating ten generations of African people,” Kuti noted, underscoring the misallocation of resources.
He also slammed the government’s reliance on public-private partnerships for essential services. “When it’s time to build for the people, that’s when they need a public-private partnership. Nonsense talk!” Kuti exclaimed.
Kuti held President Tinubu accountable for the fuel subsidy removal. “The president cannot tell us that this petrol matter is not in his control. He is the president and minister of petrol. There’s no tough decision taken here. President Tinubu took a wicked decision
