Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, better known as Davido, has shared his perspective on why Nigeria is not progressing as it should. In a recent appearance on the ‘Elevate Africa Convos’ podcast, the artist attributed the country’s stagnation to the absence of effective leadership, which he believes is essential for driving development and prosperity.
During the interview, Davido expressed that while Nigeria has enormous potential, the lack of capable leadership is preventing the country from achieving its growth. “I tell people, if you can survive in Nigeria, you can survive anywhere,” he remarked, pointing to the resilience of Nigerians amidst difficult conditions. He believes that with the right leaders, the nation could overcome its challenges.
“The only thing missing is the right leaders to guide us. Once we get that right, I believe there’s nothing that can stop us,” Davido continued. His comments underline his conviction that the country’s problems are not insurmountable, but rather a result of poor governance that fails to harness Nigeria’s full potential.
This isn’t the first time Davido has voiced his concerns about Nigeria’s state. Earlier, he stirred controversy when he warned Americans against moving to Africa, especially Nigeria, due to the country’s struggling economy. In a podcast interview, he described Nigeria’s economic situation as being in a “shambles,” urging caution for those considering relocation.
In addition to economic struggles, Davido also commented on the lack of true democracy in Nigeria. In an interview with The Morning Hustle podcast, he noted that the country’s democratic system is flawed, which further hampers its progress. This insight adds to his broader critique of governance in Nigeria.
