Thelma Ujunwa Addresses Body Shaming, Social Media Bullying

Social media influencer and chef Thelma Ujunwa, based in Abuja, has voiced her deep frustration over the persistent issue of body shaming and online bullying. She highlights the serious repercussions these negative behaviors can have, particularly for women, who may feel pressured to alter their bodies in extreme ways.

In a recent statement, Thelma pointed out the alarming consequences of harmful comments, stating, “Some of your hateful comments are the reasons why some ladies go under the knife just to achieve a ‘perfect’ body, and tragically, some do not survive the procedures.” Her remarks shed light on the mental health struggles many face as a result of societal pressure and negative feedback.

Despite her confident exterior and striking looks, Thelma has experienced her own encounters with disparaging comments. This personal experience has fueled her advocacy against body shaming and online harassment, as she seeks to raise awareness about the emotional toll of such actions.

“Many women have been pushed into depression due to relentless abuse and body shaming, often coming from men but also from other women,” Thelma lamented. She emphasizes the damaging effects of these comments on women’s self-esteem, explaining that many feel uncomfortable in their own skin due to external judgments.

Thelma’s heartfelt message serves as a crucial reminder of the profound impact social media commentary can have on mental health and self-image. “Your comments, whether online or in person, can irreparably damage how someone views themselves,” she stressed.

She also called for accountability, urging individuals to think carefully before sharing their thoughts online. “Just because you have a phone doesn’t give you the right to spread stereotypes and engage in cyberbullying. Such behavior can lead individuals to make life-altering decisions,” she warned.
