This strategic initiative was announced by Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Wale Edun, following the Federal Executive Council meeting on Monday.

Edun emphasized that disasters like the Maiduguri flooding will likely become a regular occurrence due to climatic changes, necessitating a proactive approach to disaster management.

The Disaster Relief Fund aims to provide humanitarian assistance to affected communities, support rebuilding efforts, and strengthen the nation’s response to future disasters. To achieve this, the Federal Government plans to rally funding from critical stakeholders, including the private sector. Tinubu proposed allocating a small percentage from the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) to support the fund.
