Nollywood actress, Wumi Toriola has expressed her heartbreak over the lackluster reception of her latest movie, Love Intentional. This film marks her debut in the English-language movie scene, which was released on her YouTube channel, Wumi Toriola TV. Toriola’s emotional frustration was made clear as she took to social media to voice her disappointment, lamenting the apparent disinterest from fans and viewers.
On Instagram, Toriola shared a heartfelt post, detailing her feelings of hurt and confusion. “We made a good movie. And you all refused to see it,” she wrote, calling attention to what she believes to be the public’s failure to recognize the quality of her work. Despite her excitement for this new venture and the effort that went into the film, the lack of support from her audience has left her disillusioned.
The actress’s post highlighted the irony of the situation. She pointed out that the Nigerian film industry, especially Yoruba actors, is often urged to break away from regional limitations and expand into broader, international audiences. However, according to Toriola, this desire for growth seems unreciprocated. “Our first English movie on Wumi Toriola TV… I think we should just bring it down,” she wrote, questioning whether it was even worth continuing to keep the film accessible to the public.
Toriola also suggested that part of the issue may lie in viewers not being able to find the movie. In an attempt to address this, she offered a solution: “Search ‘Love Intentional by Wumi Toriola,'” she said. Despite her efforts, she was met with little change in the level of attention the film received, which only contributed to her sense of frustration.
The actress’s frustration was further evident when she wrote, “Some say they can’t find it; I offered a solution—search ‘Love Intentional by Wumi Toriola.’ Still, nothing changed. I am tired.” Her repeated efforts to get the movie seen, including making the title more searchable, have yielded disappointing results. This, she admits, has left her feeling both exhausted and emotionally drained.
Toriola’s post also addressed the broader challenges faced by Yoruba actors when attempting to appeal to a larger, more diverse audience. While many are eager for these actors to expand their reach, the lack of audience engagement has made it difficult for Toriola to see any progress. “How do we bring more to entertain you? I am heartbroken,” she questioned, expressing her sadness at the lack of enthusiasm for the film.
