Tiwa Savage Opens Up About Her First Solo Vacation, Self-Discovery in  Maldives

Nigerian singer and songwriter, Tiwa Savage, 44, recently shared a heartfelt account of her first solo vacation, a trip to the Maldives that has captured the attention of her fans and the media. The singer, known for her bold personality and chart-topping hits, took to Instagram on January 21st, 2024, to provide insight into her personal journey during the getaway. The vacation, she revealed, was not just a break from her busy life but an experience of self-discovery and introspection.

Savage, who is also a mother to her son, Jamal, explained that this trip was unlike any other she had taken before. “2025 I pray to do everything different,” she shared in her post. “My first assignment was to go on vacation for at least a week by myself.” This decision marked a significant milestone in her life, as she admitted she had never traveled alone for a vacation before, despite occasionally dining or going to the movies by herself.

She opened up about the challenges she faced in making the decision to go on the trip alone. “I was soooo nervous. Like how will I go to dinner by myself, go to the beach alone?” she confessed. Despite her apprehensions, Tiwa noted that even when traveling, she was typically accompanied by her team, making the prospect of a solo vacation seem daunting. “I’m usually in my hotel room alone most of the time, but I always have my team around just in case I need anything,” she explained.

For this trip, Tiwa meticulously prepared for the experience, packing her essentials, which included audiobooks, her Bible, a selfie stick, a variety of kaftans and bikinis, and sunscreen. “I still over-packed sha… somethings take longer to change,” she joked in her post, adding a lighthearted touch to the story.

The first day of her vacation, Tiwa revealed, was filled with fear and uncertainty, but as the days went on, she found herself gradually embracing the experience. “It was the most beautiful experience EVERRRR,” she wrote, reflecting on the profound sense of peace she eventually found. “After I got past the first day of my fears, I started listening to my audiobooks, reading the word, praying, made some promises to myself and to God,” Tiwa said, describing her time in the Maldives as a deeply spiritual and reflective journey.

Her personal reflections during the vacation also led her to confront past emotional struggles. “I cried, when I think of how much time I’ve wasted on people and things that just distracted me, made me feel so insecure and ultimately away from true love/God’s love,” she admitted. Despite the challenges, Tiwa acknowledged her blessings and the importance of gratitude in her life. “I am so blessed, blessed with my beautiful family, an incredible career, an amazing relationship, a brilliant team, and the most amazing friends,” she wrote.

The trip became a journey of self-love and acceptance for the singer. “I started falling in love with myself, my personality, my humor, my quirks, my skin, my hair, my everything,” Tiwa shared. She came to the realization that there was nothing about herself that needed to change. “I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN ENOUGH,” she declared, emphasizing her newfound confidence and self-acceptance.

In addition to her solo journey, Tiwa’s son, Jamal, joined her later in the trip, fulfilling a promise she had made to him. “This is another promise I made… to experience the world with him,” she explained, sharing the joy of experiencing the world with her son after her solo time of reflection.

The vacation has had a lasting impact on the artist, who expressed a desire to continue living more authentically and embracing the present. “For days I kept thinking, what more does Tiwa want, who am I?” she wrote, contemplating her purpose and the next steps in her personal and professional journey. Ultimately, she decided to stop overthinking and simply enjoy the moment, focusing on relaxation and self-care. “I just relaxed, swam, read, ate great food… and literally started falling in love with myself.”
