VeryDarkMan Scheduled to Appear in Court Over Impersonation Charges

Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan or VDM, is set to appear in court today facing allegations of impersonation related to the unauthorized use of Nigeria Police Force (NPF) uniforms. The charges arise from a viral video in which VDM identifies himself as CSP VeryDarkMan, claiming to be Nigeria’s “number one online police officer.”

The NPF condemned VDM’s actions in a statement posted on its X account, expressing concerns over the integrity of its uniforms and the unauthorized use depicted in the video. The police force stated, “Martins Otse is set to appear in court today following allegations of impersonation related to the unauthorized use of Nigeria Police Force uniforms in a viral social media video.”

The release also indicated that the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command is leading the prosecution, emphasizing their commitment to maintaining the integrity of police symbols and preventing their misuse. “The FCT Police Command is actively handling the case, underscoring the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to upholding the integrity of its symbols and preventing their misuse,” the NPF stated.

As the case progresses, the public is encouraged to stay informed about the proceedings. The NPF urged interested individuals to follow the developments in court, highlighting the significance of the case in reinforcing the authority of the police.

On Thursday, VeryDarkMan was detained by police after responding to an official summons. While the specifics of his alleged offense were not detailed at the time, his lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, confirmed the detention in a post on X. “Our client, VDM, has been detained after honoring a police invitation just like yesterday,” he wrote.

Adeyanju further clarified that VDM had complied with a previous invitation from the police on Wednesday, raising questions about the nature of the investigation. His post noted, “VDM has been consistent in stating that the Nigerian Police are our friends, even when we all know they are not.”
