Itskokopee Ogaga Okokowa, a close friend of social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, widely known as Verydarkman (VDM), has publicly expressed his concerns following the activist’s recent arrest by the Nigerian police. VDM was detained after posting a video in which he donned a police uniform to issue a warning to fraudsters, an act that authorities deemed an abuse of the uniform.
Ogaga, in a series of videos, questioned the trustworthiness of the police, reflecting on how VDM had previously inspired him to believe in law enforcement. “VDM was the one who made me believe in the police,” he stated, highlighting the irony of the situation given VDM’s history of supporting the agency.
Reports from GistLover confirm that VDM’s video, which aimed to address fraudulent activities, led to his detention due to concerns over his use of the police uniform. This incident has raised questions about the boundaries of activism and the reactions of law enforcement to social media influencers.
In his commentary, Ogaga noted the police’s actions during VDM’s arrest, revealing that officers had come to VDM’s house to conduct a search. “Am I considered a criminal or drug dealer because of this treatment?” Ogaga wondered, emphasizing the sense of injustice surrounding his friend’s arrest.
Furthermore, Ogaga expressed his disappointment in the police for targeting VDM instead of pursuing actual criminals. “Why aren’t they going after real criminals on the run?” he asked, criticizing the police for what he perceives as a misallocation of their resources and focus.
