Nigerian singer Charles Chibuezechukwu, popularly known as Crayon, has shared his harrowing experience with drug addiction. In a recent interview with YouTuber Korty EO, Crayon revealed that he almost lost his life and was hospitalized at a psychiatric home.
“I was hospitalised at a psychiatric home”, he recounted. I almost lost my life,” Crayon went on to recall a disturbing episode in front of his record label office. He described how his condition deteriorated, which led him to walk barefooted to Mavin studio, where he collapsed.
“There was a day my manager saw me and was alarmed by my condition. He asked what was wrong with me and I told him I only smoked weed.”
” I started acting crazy. I took off my shirt and smashed my iPhone,” Crayon recounted. Fortunately, my colleague Rema intervened, arriving at the scene with a stick, ready to defend him. Rema drove down and carried a stick, he was ready to fight. I laid down on Rema’s lap and he said, ‘Bro, trust me, once you pass this stage, you will come out great because I feel like this is the final battle you’re about to fight.'”
Crayon expressed gratitude for Rema’s timely intervention, saying, “I could not recognise anybody, but I remember that word.” Crayon further explained that his situation was similar to late singer Mohbad’s struggles.
The singer’s addiction led to a dramatic incident where he almost jumped out of a moving car. “It was that crazy,” he said. Crayon was eventually taken to a psychiatric hospital in Lekki, where he received treatment.
After his recovery, Crayon left for Don Jazzy’s house, which marked a turning point in his journey. His experience serves as a cautionary tale about the dangers of drug addiction and the importance of seeking help.
