Dr. Ezekiel ThankGod, the Chief Executive Officer of Eezee Conceptz, has accused gospel music sensation Mercy Chinwo of attempting to assert control over her music catalog, despite having received over $625,000 in compensation from the label. In a series of statements, Dr. ThankGod outlined his grievances, alleging that Mercy Chinwo has been using various means, including law enforcement and religious groups, to intimidate him and manipulate the situation.
According to Dr. ThankGod, Chinwo’s efforts to take control of her music catalog are unjustified given the substantial financial compensation she has already received from Eezee Conceptz. “You’ve received over $625,000 to date,” Dr. ThankGod wrote, addressing the singer directly. “But, you would prefer to insulate that part to keep deceiving people and weeping sentiments on how you signed a bad contract or had been treated badly.”
He further criticized Chinwo for allegedly misrepresenting the financial terms of her agreement with the label, accusing her of deceit and exploiting public sympathy. “Sake deal you desperately pursued me for years and had to get third parties to impress on Eezee Concept to sign you,” Dr. ThankGod claimed, highlighting the efforts that were made to bring Chinwo onto the label.
Dr. ThankGod also addressed accusations that Chinwo was trying to use her position within the church community to further her goals, adding that she has leveraged religious organizations as part of her efforts to take control of her music catalog. “You are still trying to weaponize law enforcement and religious organizations, all in a bid to take over a catalog you did not spend one Naira on,” he said.
The CEO took issue with Chinwo’s actions, noting that the singer had started her career as a backup singer in the studio and on stage, and was offered opportunities by Eezee Conceptz that she would not have had otherwise. “Unlike some Music talent producers and Label executives, it is not something I stumbled into by marriage or association,” Dr. ThankGod emphasized.
He expressed disappointment over what he perceived as a breach of trust, explaining that he had invested significant personal resources into her career. “I invested my blood, sweat, and hard-earned money into you. I housed you for months before securing two-bedroom apartments for both you and your band leader,” he said, underscoring the personal sacrifices he had made.
The conflict between Dr. ThankGod and Mercy Chinwo escalated when Chinwo allegedly failed to meet her contractual obligations, specifically by not delivering a third album and withholding funds from content and events. Dr. ThankGod clarified that rather than taking an adversarial approach, he sought to resolve the situation amicably. “When this happened, I didn’t attack you. Instead, I reached out, proposing a reconciliation meeting and even suggesting an independent audit for transparency.”
Despite efforts to resolve the issue, Dr. ThankGod revealed that he had been detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) last year, where he was allegedly extorted for $274,000 under duress. However, he refrained from publicly attacking Chinwo at the time. “I still didn’t resort to dragging you publicly,” he stated. “As a law-abiding citizen, I chose to follow the legal processes outlined in the contract you signed with Eezee Conceptz.”
Dr. ThankGod raised questions about Chinwo’s commitment to resolving the dispute fairly, suggesting that she was avoiding the legal processes outlined in their agreement. “If your hands are clean, why avoid the Multidoor resolution process in our agreement? Why manipulate in situations to bully me?” he asked, pointing to what he perceived as inconsistencies in Chinwo’s approach to the contract.
He also expressed frustration at Chinwo’s selective use of the contract, criticizing her for discrediting the document when it was not in her favor, yet quoting it when it benefited her. “You deny the contract when it speaks of your obligations and our benefits, but quote it when it benefits you,” Dr. ThankGod said.
The conflict reached a boiling point when Dr. ThankGod accused Chinwo of attempting to claim ownership of the music catalog that he had fully funded. “You’re now attempting to claim ownership of a catalog I fully funded,” he remarked. “A body of work you never contributed financially to.”
Despite the ongoing dispute, Dr. ThankGod emphasized that Eezee Conceptz had been instrumental in building Chinwo’s career and giving her opportunities. “I founded the label that built your platform, put food on your table, and gave you opportunities beyond your dreams,” he stated. “Through God’s grace, u did this and no one can erase the role Eezee Conceptz played in building your influence.”
Dr. ThankGod reiterated his commitment to acting lawfully and trusting the legal system to resolve the matter. “I’ll continue to act lawfully, trusting the legal system and God to defend my peace and reputation,” he said. He also expressed gratitude for the support he has received, hoping that “truth and justice prevail.”
