Nigerian social media critic, Martin Otse, aka VeryDarkMan, has responded to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s (EFCC) invitation to assist in investigating bribery allegations against some of its personnel. In a video statement, VeryDarkMan challenged the EFCC to prioritize investigating its own officers before summoning him.
“The EFCC’s statement failed to address the core issue,” VeryDarkMan said. “Why didn’t they confirm Bobrisky’s detention? Bobrisky is the suspect; verify his claims first.” He emphasized, “Investigate your officers, especially those handling Bobrisky’s case, before inviting me.”
VeryDarkMan questioned the logic of summoning him to Lagos, suggesting Abuja as a more suitable location. “You’re asking me to travel to Lagos when your headquarters is in Abuja. Invite Bobrisky to Abuja for the investigation.”
Expressing concerns about safety, VeryDarkMan stated, “I don’t trust you; I don’t have N15 million to settle anything, and no godfather to protect me. Investigate your officers first.”
In a sarcastic remark, VeryDarkMan joked, “If I consider attending, provide a first-class ticket and five-star accommodation. Send an invitation with my ‘payment’.”
The EFCC’s invitation follows VeryDarkMan sharing a recording where Idris Okuneye (Bobrisky) alleged EFCC officials received N15 million to drop money laundering charges. Bobrisky has since denied the allegations.
The EFCC has assured a thorough investigation and public disclosure of findings. Chairman Ola Olukoyede ordered an immediate investigation and constituted a team to examine the accusations.
As the investigation unfolds, the public awaits the EFCC’s response to VeryDarkMan’s demands and the outcome of the internal probe.
